Coming soon: a brand new
preschool building

The Victorian State Government, Nillumbik Shire Council and Diamond Hills Preschool announced in March 2022 a $3.69 million redevelopment of Diamond Hills Preschool to provide more preschool places for local children.
The State Government is contributing $2.9 million through the Growing Suburbs Fund, Nillumbik Shire Council will contribute $700,000 and manage the redevelopment, the preschool will also contribute $75,000.
The redevelopment will see our 35 year old preschool completely rebuilt, providing a second classroom and multi-purpose room, and new amenities including kitchen, accessible bathroom facilities, staff resource and meeting rooms. Outdoors will feature several landscaped play spaces.
Construction is expected to start in 2023. The preschool will continue to operate from our current building while the new building is constructed on the existing car park.
More information on the funding announcement can be found here, and concept plans are available to view at the preschool.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will the preschool close during construction?
No, a critical component to this project was that construction occur without any closure or interruption to our programs.
When will you be offering 15 hours of funded three year old kindergarten?
With our current preschool building a single room playspace, there is limited opportunity to expand beyond 5 hours for 3 year old kindergarten in 2023. However, our new facility will offer more preschool hours for more children. We are pleased to be able to offer two 3 year old groups in 2024 (one is an integrated group), both offering 15 hours per week. Please see our timetable for further details.
