Our Preschool is committed to delivering a high-quality, play-based learning program for children aged three to six years, within an inclusive and responsive environment that recognises and respects each child's identity, interests, and agency.
As a Child Safe Organisation, we prioritise the rights of children to feel safe, be heard, and actively participate in decisions affecting them, fostering a culture of empowerment, respect, and safety across all aspects of our service.
Educational Philosophy
We at Diamond Hills Preschool, acknowledge the traditional owners of the land, the Wurundjeri people, on whose land we play, learn and build our community today. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.
Diamond Hills Preschool is committed to providing a welcoming, learning and community environment, that aims to support all children, their families, educators and staff, committee of management and the wider community. We value our long-standing journey within this community and the intergenerational families who are a part of this preschool. we believe in developing relationships that are inclusive of the ‘whole’ family, and we believe in investing time to do this.
At Diamond Hills, our motto of ‘Play, Learn, Laugh and Shine’ reflects our core values and educational philosophies. We believe in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and that all children have the right to be free, to play and be children. We strongly believe that each child is unique and is a cherished and respected individual and an integral part of our kindergarten community. All children have the same opportunities regardless of their age, gender identity, background or abilities - an educational program and environment where each child and educator can demonstrate self-awareness, confidence, family pride and positive social identities for themselves and others.
Our program fosters the teaching of tolerance, sensitivity and the value of co-operation and understanding. We strive to develop a responsive, warm, trusting and respectful relationship with children as we endeavour to promote a child’s wellbeing, self-esteem and sense of security. We believe that children learn in different ways, at different rates and different times. As educators we strive towards instilling a love of learning in all of our children through PLAY.
Diamond Hills Preschool provides a nurturing, safe, stimulating, culturally inclusive, visually appealing and developmentally appropriate educational program. Therefore, our program is developed to foster intrinsic motivation, engage children in active thinking to enrich their learning and encourage them to explore and manage their feelings and interactions. Our program also aims to stimulate a passion to LEARN through engaging and fun-filled learning experiences which empower children to feel valued, competent and capable. The relationships that we develop with the children are aimed at developing the children’s confidence in their ability to express themselves, work through differences, learn new things and take calculated risks.
We acknowledge that the families and communities in which children live are diverse, and that children’s learning and development is enhanced when different cultures are respected. We are passionate as a community and team of educators to look at ways we can embed, gain and share knowledge of the perspectives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in our program. We have high expectations for each and every child to develop dispositions for learning and attitudes which enable them to reach their full potential and to SHINE.
Our play-based, developmentally inclusive program, underpins State and National Government Early Learning Frameworks. Children are naturally motivated to play and our program builds on their motivation, using play as a context for learning. Children are motivated to explore, experiment, discover and to solve problems.
Diamond Hills strives to develop curriculums which encourage each individual child’s agency, enabling them to make choices, nurture their own ideas and contribute to matters that affect them.
We strongly value the natural environment at Diamond Hills Preschool. We believe it plays an integral part of instilling and creating a sense of community, belonging, environmental and sustainable awareness, sensory and exploratory opportunities and we value the hands - on learning that it provides.
The animals and sustainability practices play a fundamental role in our program. Indoor and outdoor play are equally valued at Diamond Hills.
In collaboration with children, families and the wider community, our educators believe in co-constructive / integrated learning. This involves taking the children’s interests, learning styles and contributions from their families into consideration. The educators are then able to provide a holistic approach to each child, using scaffolding as a tool to extend and enhance their learning. Our role as educators is to provide a program using a balance of guided child-led, child-initiated, educator supported and active educator-led learning.
Through this promotion of the children’s development, the staff aim to work towards each child’s ability to achieve the Early Years Learning and Developmental Outcomes.
As educators, we acknowledge the importance of continuing to develop as professionals through further education, contact with colleagues and other professionals and regular critical reflection of or our practice. At Diamond Hills we work as a team, as we believe that all educators and staff are equals within the program - each bringing with them their own unique interests, expertise and strengths, which adds to the learning environment of the preschool.
Diamond Hills is committed to providing a quality and dedicated educational service that reflects the diversity of our preschool community. We feel privileged to be an integral part of this community and contributing towards learning for life.
